Nicole Clement, heart disease survivor
Who do you go red for and why?
I go red for myself and my family members with cardiomyopathy. I go red for the community. I go red to spread the knowledge to others that I didn’t have before I was diagnosed with heart failure. I have to remain in good health to be an advocate for the community and raise awareness about heart disease.
How do you prioritize self-care?
I prioritize self-care by making sure that I have time for myself throughout the week to work on me. During this time, I go on walks, read, write, and spend time with my dogs. I remain aware of how I’m feeling and take care of my needs from there.
What do you want women to know about heart disease and stroke?
I want women to know that it can happen to anyone. Young, old, healthy, unhealthy - heart disease and stroke don’t discriminate. Genetics are genetics. Pay attention to the signs and advocate for yourself. Live as healthy of a lifestyle as you can and take care of yourself.
